Egyptian mummies
For the Egyptians, after the death there was supervening the eternal life, an extension of the earthly life in which the deceased would keep on needing all its belongings and even its own body. In order to this one preserved in good condition, the skill of the mummification was born.
The mummification consists of the conservation of the human body after the death. By means of this skill, the corruptible parts of the body were extracted and this one was covered with drying substances and, later, with resin. Later, the body was wrapped in linen. This operation could take even more than two months.
Once done this, and especially when it was a question of Pharaohs or other excellent persons, the lean age placed inside a sarcofagus, which was painted to simulate the appearance of the being who there was staying. In its interior, there could be read inscriptions of those that one believed that they would help the dead person to come to another life. Also the body been accompanied usually on a copy of the “Book of the dead persons”.
In 1922, there was discovered in the Vale of the Kings the entry to the grave of Tutankamon, which it was lodging in major Egyptian treasure found until now. There also he was resting the sarcofagus of the Pharaoh, with its body. Some of the most famous Egyptian mummies are in different museums, like the Egyptian Museum of Cairo, although this is a controversial topic and one has asked the mummies to return to its graves and that should not be exhibited in the current conditions.
