Luxor

Luxor is a city placed in the High Egypt, in the province of Qena. Formerly it was the city of Tebas, the capital of the Ancient Egypt. The first Arab travelers, who were admiring Luxor for its ruins and its dispersed monuments about the city, named him that it still preserves today. In Arab, Luxor means “the palaces”.

Luxor is probably the most famous city and the most interesting destination of Egypt. In this city, ancient Tebas, you can visit some of the biggest and best temples of the antiquity. The city of Luxor has been usually characterized like the biggest museum outdoors of the world, with the ruins of the temples of Karnak and Luxor rising in the middle of the modern city. The city of Luxor keeps on being one of the main tourist destinations from the last dynasties of the Greek and Roman periods. Thousands of international tourists go so far as every year to visit these monuments, which presence constitutes a big part of the economic base of the modern city. Nevertheless, in Luxor there are only three main streets: Sharia to the-Karnak, Sharia to the-Mahatta and Corniched, next to the Nile.

Luxor has about 150.000 inhabitants and she is governed by special articles of association that give him major autonomy than to other areas of Egypt. In the shore this one, one of the first stops must be the temple of Luxor, constructed by Amenophis III.
