The city of Alexandria
Alexandria was founded by Alejandro Magno in 332 B.C. and it was the capital of the New Egypt and a base from which the Mediterranean was controlled. At present, the city is famous for being the main port of Egypt and an important shopping center and of transport.
Alexandria constitutes the heart of a big industrial area that produces oil, role, cotton, asphalt, textile and plastic. West of Egypt is on the coast and it has a population of approximately four million inhabitants. Nevertheless, it occupies an important place in the national economy of Egypt. Alexandria is the second biggest city of the country, known as “the pearl of the Mediterranean”.
