Karnak

Karnak is a small population placed in the oriental bank of the river Nile. In her there is the Temple of Karnak, the most important religious complex of the Ancient Egypt. After the Pyramids of Giza, it is the most visited second place of the country.

Karnak

For centuries, the Temple of Karnak was the most influential religious center of Egypt. The main temple was dedicated to the cult of the god Amón but, as it was habitual, also was venerated to other divinities. The complex is composed by the big temple of Amón, the enclosure of Montu, the enclosure of Mut, the temple of Jonsu, the temple of Opet and the temple of Ptah.

The entry to the complex is preceded by a sphinxes avenue with head of ram, constructed for the purpose of protecting the temple. Next, one gains access to a big courtyard where there is, to the left, a temple of the Pharaoh Sethi II, the column of Tahargo and the monumental statue of Pinedyem I. To the right, we see the temple of Ramsés III, at the head the room hipóstila, and a little more to the fund the obelisks of Thutmose I and Hatshepsut. There is also a series of stays, with less courtyards, and the sanctum, to that only the Pharaoh and the priests had access.

The main difference between the Temple of Karnak and the rest is the time and the effort used in its construction, as well as its later enlargement. About thirty Pharaohs have been involved in this building.
